Fogland started way back in 2016. Strangely enough, its inception had nothing to do with Covid. At first it only had the idea of a changeling or shapeshifter - a human being whose genes have mutated so catastrophically over many generations that it alters the very fabric of their biological makeup. This may sound like it's a cross between science fiction and fantasy, but even today, there are a number of naturally occurring microorganism in the animal kingdom that are capable of changing certain parts of their physical makeup at will. With the yet-to-be-known effects of genetically modified viruses, like Covid, it is not far-fetched to bump this idea into the next level.
Since 2016, the story idea has developed to include other genetically-mutated humans (or wildlings as they are referred to in the story). There's those who are able to 'read people's minds or moods' and infer what they're thinking. Wildlings call these people 'seers' whilst Citizens call them 'super-empaths'. There's one character that can see 30 seconds into the future. There's a character that can understand what animals are trying to 'say'.
Anyhow, the story has developed from a one book idea, into a (probably) three-book series. There are Three main characters in the story, plus four or five secondary characters, whose stories interweave and comes to a resolution in the last book. There will be deaths and heartbreak. Whose it is, I am not sure yet. I hope to inject some humour in the books, as a poll I posted in an online science fiction community website indicated that out of nearly 300 votes, 37% voted that they would rather read Science Fiction with Humour, compared to other flavours (Suspense, Mystery, etc).
I'm currently working on the story, sometimes on Wattpad and other times with Beta Readers, using Goolge doc. If it ever becomes a bestseller and they make a film out of it, I hope they'll use a k-po song, or one of BTS songs for the theme track. And maybe Taehyung can act as one of the characters. Also get one of the members of Black Pink to play Nineveh. I imagine one of the characters have Jordan Peterson's persona.
