After roughly two and a half days in Liverpool, we're now back in Surrey. We stayed at a nice apartment on Duke Street, not too far from the Strand and Albert Dock. We hired a car from Alamo in Kingston and drove up to Chesham to drop off Barney at Audrey and Peter's before continuing on to Liverpool. The drive took about 4 1/2 hours. The graduation ceremony on the morning of the 20th July was for LJMU's School of Art and Design and the School of Social Sciences. It must be quite a proud moment for Mike and Dorothy to see Laura graduate (with Honours) with a degree in Interior Design. She's quite creative, Laura. She also had her 21 birthday in July and got a Nikon D40. Pretty neat camera!
The next day, we went for a short drive along the coast up to Fromby and Crosby beach. Luckily, although it drizzled a bit when we left Liverpool, the weather turned bright and sunny while we were at the beach. Fromby has pretty sandy dunes and sandy flora scattered about. There was some nice looking trails you can walk on, but apparently you can also use the trail for horse riding. Didn't see any horses while we were there though. Laura had a nice time trying out her new Nikon at Fromby beach, walking down to the sea with Mike. There wasn't many sunbathers or swimmers as such, but there were quite a number of people walking about with their kids and dogs. It's more of a place to go for a quiet sit and perhaps a little picnic. Nevertheless, the sandy dune were quite picturesque. Managed to get a fwe shots at Fromby beach and will load most of them onto my Flicker page. :)
From Fromby, we went on to Crosby beach where 100 of Anthony Gromley's iron cast statues stood looking out to sea. Of course, the best time to see these statues is when the beach is quiet and still, perhaps in the early mornings when no one is around. You can see all those statues scattered all over the beach in an area 2.5km along the coast and 1km out to sea. Pretty cool! The tide wasn't high so we managed to get close to a couple of these statues to take photos. Unlike Fromby, had some facilities nearby and a proper parking lot. Nevertheless, I think both are nice beaches and not very far from Liverpool city.
So it was a nice couple of days up in Liverpool. Now though, the question is - to go or not to go back to Kuala Lumpur for a while? Searched the internet for cheap flights and discount airfares and the cheapest flights were from Emirates and Etihad... oh, and one site showed a cheap flight from Malaysian Airlines. It's amazing how easy it is to get flight information online these days. There are plenty of airlines offering cheap flights, so going back for Ramadhan might be in the pipeline... you'll never know.
