Ever asked yourself that very self-same question? Is this all there is to my life? Wake up, eat, breathe, school, work, go home, do laundry, eat dinner, wash up the dishes, telly, watch Youtubers, sleep. Repeat.
Were we not supposed to achieve something great? Weren't we supposed to make a difference in this world? Reach milestones? Accomplish the wondrous and remarkable, like those people on the screen? Over six billion of us, what is my contribution?
News flash : not everyone is meant to be incredible. Not everyone lives amazing lives. Not the way we see it on screens. Those are mainly Kodak moments, hyped-up snapshots of those people's life. Brief moments that happened to be caught on tape and aired and gone viral. And that's all well and good, except when someone believes that their lives are wanting because it has yet to feature such Kodak moments. This is not to say that you CAN'T live amazing and incredible lives, but for the most part, people are generally contented with living the average life - whatever your definition of an average life is.
Whilst it's nice to regard the lives of others as amazing and inspirational, never forget that there is no such thing as the 'perfect life'. That's a myth. This life is created in such a way that it will break our hearts, it will contain sadness and misery. We see that everyday courtesy of headline-hungry newspapers and other 'news' channels.
It boils down to this: If you find yourself unhappy with your lot in life, then try your darnedest to change it. If you can't change the situation you are in, then change the way you perceive and process your situation in your head. Don't say this can't be done. No one else has more power over the way you think than YOURSELF. One of the most common advice of all time is this : Don't look at the lives of those who have more than you. Look at those who have less than you. This is an easy trick to change your perception of your life, your situation. It's not as good as a Jedi mind-trick, but it works!
